This is going to be a tough one!When I got this, I bought it because (a) it had a beautiful cover and (b) Richelle Mead was quoted on the front of the book. I expected something fast paced that kept me reading long into the night. But, that wasn't what I got.However, what I got, was in no way bad, just different! It took me a few months to finish Unearthly. I picked it up, put it down, picked it back up, put it down again. The story just didn't catch me the way I hoped, BUT .. the setting and characters did.Cynthia Hand is a beautiful writer. Her dialogue is great, her descriptions of the landscape are exhilarating and her characters are well-rounded, unique and beautiful characters. I could just picture Clara flying above the trees, unsteady on her new wings. I loved her family, especially Jeffrey, who reminded me so much of my own brother. Her mom is so mysterious and I can't wait to see what she will be like in the next book. Which, as I wrote that, means I will read the next one! Although the story didn't grab me the way it could have, I have not encountered such wonderful characters in ages. Clara was a sweet girl, a narrator that I enjoyed listening to and developed a trust with, Tucker was such a fun and adorable guy and Wendy and Angela were well-developed and likable characters. I truly loved them all!If you are looking for something suspense filled and action packed, perhaps this isn't the book for you .. but If you are looking for a cute read with some lovable characters to curl up in bed with, I would recommend it =).
